Lukey Ellsberg is a multi-disciplinary scholar and visual artist focusing on technologies for imaging, witnessing, and representing war. Lukey received a PhD in Religious Studies and History of Science and Medicine from Yale University, with a dissertation titled “Nuclear Imagism: Reality and its Antidotes in the American Atomic Age.” Their research uses archival materials from early American nuclear war planning to rewrite narratives of strategic dependence on nuclear weapons. Other research interests include critical museum studies, political theories of reality, and the history of the image. Lukey graduated from Barnard College in 2016 with a BA in anthropology of science and medicine. They received an MA from Union Theological Seminary in 2020.
